Back to Coaching and Mentoring

What is Coaching and Mentoring?

Above & Beyond coaching or mentoring offers support advice and guidance for a person to talk about anything that is troubling them in a confidential and friendly environment.

Our coaching and mentoring seeks to help an individual to achieve their full potential.

We will do this by helping an individual to . . .

  • Explore thier motivations, desires, skills and thought processes this could assist the individual in making real, lasting change.
  • We will use questioning techniques to facilitate the persons own thought processes in order to identify solutions and actions rather than takes a wholly directive approach
  • Support the person in setting appropriate goals and methods of assessing progress in relation to these goals
  • Observe, listen and ask questions to understand the person’s situation
  • Creatively apply tools and techniques which may include one-to-one training, facilitating, counselling & networking.
  • Encourage a commitment to action and the development of lasting personal growth & change.
  • Maintain unconditional positive regard for the person, which means that the coach is at all times supportive and non-judgemental of the person, their views, lifestyle and aspirations.
  • Ensure that people develop personal competencies and do not develop unhealthy dependencies on the coaching or mentoring relationship.
  • Encourage mentee to continually improve competencies and to develop new ways where necessary to achieve their goals.
  • Manage the relationship to ensure the person receives the appropriate level of service and that programmes are neither too short, nor too long.

Sessions can take place in a School, Home, and Community Centre, wherever the person is comfortable.

A Mentoring strategy will be produced in partnership with the person.

The number and length of sessions are negotiable and dependant on the person’s needs.
